In 2017, at just 21 years of age, Esteban Ocon finished eighth in the Drivers’ Championship – a fitting reward for an impressive debut full season.
It was a season that saw the Frenchman set a record for most consecutive finishes from the beginning of a Formula 1® career, 27.
His greatest competition appeared to come from within Force India, as Ocon continued to mount the pressure on senior teammate Sergio Perez, which saw the two drivers clash on several occasions.
Back in 2016, Ocon took his chance at Manor when Rio Haryanto was replaced during the mid-season break, and he made a good impression with a competent debut display at the challenging Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps in the Belgian Grand Prix.
Up against Pascal Wehrlein that year, Ocon acquitted himself well to prove his ability and potential – an achievement confirmed by his switch to Force India.
Born in Normandy, Ocon impressed in his junior karting career and made rapid progress before winning the FIA Formula 3 European Championship in 2014.
He is seen by many as a star of the future.
