By his own admission, Franco Colapinto's thrill of driving came before any grand Formula 1® ambitions.
Before single-seaters, simulators and European racetracks, the young Argentine spent his early years on quad bikes and finding any excuse to go fast.
When Colapinto did join the grid in 2024, he carried more than just his own dreams with him. His debut ended a 23-year wait for Argentinian fans, becoming the first Argentine on the grid since Gastón Mazzacane in 2001 reigniting the country’s passion for Formula 1®.
The road to becoming a Formula 1® World Champion remains a long one and for an Argentinian, the benchmark is about as intimidating as they come. Five-time World Champion Juan Manuel Fangio remains one of the sport's greatest ever drivers and the last Argentine to claim Formula 1®'s ultimate prize
Colapinto isn't there yet, and he would probably be the first to say so. Still early in his Formula 1® career, Colapinto remains something of an unknown quantity, and that's part of the fun but for a nation that lives and breathes motorsport, there's something undeniably exciting about having a young driver carrying those hopes once again.
