1969/72 McLaren M10B

Racing Past Presented by Shannons Insurance.

This car was originally purchased by the talented Neil Allen in 1969.

In one of its early appearances in 1970, the engine harmonic balancer came off the engine at Warwick Farm, severing the rear brake lines and causing Neil to run into the back of Frank Matich driving a similar car.

Engine: 5000cc Chev V8
Driver: David Hardman

The chassis was sent back to Trojan in England for repair and Neil bought another McLaren M10B.

Neil retired from racing in 1971 and sold the car to Alan Hamilton who finished 2nd in the Australian Gold Star Series and 3rd in the Australian GP.

A satisfying result for his first time driving an open wheel race car.

At the end of the 1971 season, Alan sold the car to Warwick Brown and his sponsor Pat Burke and paid a deposit to Frank Gardner to purchase his Lola 300.

A misunderstanding occurred and Frank sold the Lola 300 to Garry Campbell causing Alan's temporary retirement from single seater racing whilst struggling to retrieve his deposit from Frank.

It should also be remembered that in 1970 this car set the outright lap record at Bathurst which was not broken for fourty years!
