1969 Brabham BT29

Racing Past Presented by Shannons Insurance.

Chassis 44 BT29 was originally delivered to Larry Wright by the Californian dealer Hayes Racing Equip in late 1970. Wright’s first race was the two months later in the Formula B SCCA Continental at the Riverside International Raceway.

It successfully ran all through 1971, ’71 and ’73 until a crash at Laguna Seca in June 1973 where it spun into a guard rail and bank, then was hit by another car. The frame was damaged and the suspension all but destroyed. The engine was removed and slotted into another car, suspected to be BT29-22.

Details
Car # 84
Engine: 1600cc Ford Twincam
Driver: Simon Lambert

The balance of the car was sold to Mark Bahner in either late 1973 or early 1974 and was retained by Bahner until 1980 when it was sold to Lou Pavesi. Pavesi tinkered with the car until it was sold to well-known Australian’s Steve Pike and Jim McConville in 1993. Steve and Jim completely rebuilt the car and Jim raced the car at numerous historic events across Australia for the next two and half decades.

Jim McConville died in 2021 and the car was then sold by Jims’s son to current owner Simon Lambert who has completed the restoration, racing at Historic events mainly in SA and VIC.
