Since 2018 Supercars teams and drivers have raced at Albert Park for championship points. With 2022 proving to be a hard-fought title the battle for honours in the Repco Supercars Championship, the competition between the cars and drivers on all four days of the Formula 1® Heineken® Australian Grand Prix 2022 is bound to be fierce.
With four races over the weekend, including two on Saturday, and all the drivers facing a modified 5.28km circuit, naming a favourite for overall honours looks like a real challenge.
The Red Bull Ampol Holden Commodores are likely featured, with 2021 Supercars champion Shane van Gisbergen and his rookie teammate Broc Feeney leading the way.
Chaz Mostert opened the season in fine style in Sydney and his Optus-backed Walkinshaw Andretti United Commodore looks to be well-suited to the open, flowing Albert Park layout. Mostert, last year’s Bathurst 1000 winner, has a new teammate this year in Nick Percat and even the intra-team battle between the two is likely to be intense.
But there is good reason to expect a Ford fightback at Albert Park. Shell V-Power Racing’s Anton De Pasquale and Will Davison are right behind, the latter in particular looking for a strong performance as the grandson of four-time Australian Grand Prix winner Lex Davison.
Cameron Waters is in great form in the Monster Energy/Tickford Mustang, the Mildura-born driver, while other drivers to watch include the Erebus Motorsport duo of Brodie Kostecki and Will Brown and Tim Slade (CoolDrive Ford Mustang).
