Aussies fly flag as Formula 1® kicks off in Austria this weekend

Friday, 3 July 2020

Four Australian drivers will race in the Formula 3 category.

After racing was put on hold earlier this year, the F1®, F2 and F3 seasons will kick off with the Austrian Grand Prix at the Red Bull Ring this weekend, followed a week later by a second race at the same track.

Likely to be one of the most unusual Formula 1® seasons of all-time, the much-anticipated season-opener will take place on Sunday, 5 July at 11:10pm (AEST).

With the season opener of Formula 3 coinciding with the Formula 1® opener, fans will have the opportunity to witness the next generation of young Australian drivers competing on the global stage on Sunday, 5 July at 5:45pm (AEST).

This year, four Australian drivers will race in the Formula 3 category. Oscar Piastri, Calan Williams, Jack Doohan and Alex Peroni will all compete in the extremely fierce 30-car field.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation CEO, Andrew Westacott, said the start of the season for all three categories is great news for motorsport fans in Australia and around the world.

“We are very excited to have Formula 1®f and its support categories back on our screens again and can’t wait to see all the action,” Westacott said.

“The four Australian drivers racing in Formula 3 are the future of open-wheel motorsport in our country and we hope to see everyone get behind them this season,” he continued.

The Formula 1® calendar currently has eight confirmed Grands Prix, with plans to expand beyond this number, including races in Bahrain and Abu Dhabi.
