Feeney flies high at Albert Park

Kostecki leaves Melbourne with Supercars points lead.

Vastly differing strategies have brought together the fastest drivers only on the final lap of the fourth Beaurepaires Melbourne SuperSprint at the FORMULA 1 ROLEX AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2023.

Two groups of cars raced for the win in spite of being separated by 50 seconds on the track, after Broc Feeney, Andre Heimgartner, and Brodie Kostecki chose to make their mandatory pitstops early in the 13-lap journey.

While they did that, Shane van Gisbergen, Bryce Fullwood and Will Davison stayed on the track, leaving it until the race's final lap to make their stop.

Once those stops were completed, it was Feeney’s Red Bull Ampol Chevrolet Camaro that held sway, taking the win ahead of the similar R&J Batteries car of Heimgartner and Kostecki. With his third podium result of the weekend Coca Cola Erebus Motorsport’s Kostecki took over the championship points lead for the first time in his career.

Van Gisbergen had to settle for fourth place ahead of Jack Le Brocq, who continued his solid weekend in his Truck Assist Chevy.

Will Davison was the best performer of the Ford drivers in sixth, while Macauley Jones gave Brad Jones Racing a very happy Sunday with seventh place.

A late-race pitstop and a blistered tyre slowed Chaz Mostert, who could only salvage 14th place in his Walkinshaw Andretti United Ford Mustang. As a result, he drops 32 points behind Kostecki in the points, the West Australian taking the points to lead for the first time.

His next race will be on home soil in Perth when the series resumes at Wanneroo Park on April 29-30.
