In what will be the second Supercars outing of the season, the FORMULA 1 AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2023 will be the first opportunity for Supercars drivers to race the Gen3 on a high-speed circuit at Albert Park, after racing the first round in Newcastle on what is typically a slow speed street track.

Post pre-season testing, Penrite Racing Team Principal, David Cauchi, and Driver, David Reynolds, said they won’t fully know the extent of the Gen3 new features until the new model gets racing this season, fuelling the intrigue come Thursday, March 30 at Albert Park.

With a significant reduction in downforce of roughly 60-70%, it is expected that the Gen3 model will shift the focus from engineering and data reliance to the individual drivers’ skillset, enhancing the viewing experience for Supercars fans as the changes also lead to more overtaking opportunities.

Australian Grand Prix Corporation, Division Manager - Motorsport, David Corrigan is thrilled to see the next generation of Supercars on track on the first day of the Grand Prix™.

“For the first time, we’ll see Gen3 cars on track at the Albert Park Grand Prix circuit, and we’re also going to see a Supercars race on Thursday afternoon, so we’re set up for an amazing weekend for Supercars," Corrigan said.

"Of course, they’ll be racing for the Larry Perkins trophy, so it’s very exciting, and we’re looking forward to seeing the Gen3 cars on track.”

Penrite Racing Driver, David Reynolds likes the look of the new cars.

“I’ve driven this car a few times now and it is a lot different to drive to the old car. For us drivers and team, we’ve got to explore the limits of the car set up," Raynolds said.

“They look a lot cooler as they’re lower and wider and they go faster down the straight, which is always a positive thing in motor racing.”

“Albert Park is one of my favourite events of the year, with a huge crowd, it’s always a beautiful weekend, the track’s unreal to drive and I’m really looking forward to doing well again because last year we had such a good performance, so I’d love to back that up.”
