Sunday, 26 July 2026

A fan favourite makes a return.

Formula 1® and the FIA have announced that the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix will take place at Malaysia's Sepang International Circuit from 2-4 October 2026, slotting into the calendar between the Azerbaijan Grand Prix and Singapore Grand Prix.

The event remains subject to the completion of final agreements and the formal approval of the FIA World Motor Sport Council. Under the arrangement, the race will officially be known as the Formula 1 Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia.

The agreement has been reached between Formula 1, the FIA, the Kingdom of Bahrain and the Government of Malaysia, ensuring the Bahrain Grand Prix remains on the 2026 calendar. No other changes have been made to the schedule.

Sepang last hosted Formula 1 in 2017 after debuting on the championship calendar in 1999. The circuit is widely regarded as one of the sport's most memorable venues thanks to its flowing layout, unpredictable weather conditions and passionate fanbase.

Stefano Domenicali, President and CEO of Formula 1, welcomed the announcement and praised the collaborative effort that made the event possible.

"Today we can confirm that Malaysia will host the Bahrain Grand Prix in 2026," Domenicali said.

"This demonstrates Formula 1's ability to adapt and find solutions when challenges arise, while continuing to deliver a world-class calendar for our fans.

"I would like to thank His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, King of Bahrain, His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, and His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, together with both governments, for their commitment and support throughout the process.

"I would also like to recognise FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem for his collaboration and partnership.

"Most importantly, this is fantastic news for Formula 1 fans around the world. Sepang is a circuit with a rich history in our sport, and we look forward to seeing it return as part of what promises to be an exciting 2026 season."
