Oscar Piastri holds onto P2 in the feature race

Monday, 7 June 2021

The Aussie recovered well after a tough Saturday.

PREMA Racing driver Oscar Piastri holds onto second place in the FIA Formula 2 championship with a P2 finish in the feature race in Baku. The Australian had a rollercoaster weekend with P3 in qualifying before being involved in a crash in the first sprint race and crossing the line P8 in the second sprint race.

The feature race wasn't without drama, with Piastri being given a five-second unsafe release penalty after his pit stop. It didn't matter, though, with his pace being fast enough to retain P2 behind Hitech Grand Prix driver Juri Vips.

"P2 in the feature race, I'm happy with that. I think we didn't quite have the pace to match Juri today, but we got good points, another trophy. We have been a bit lucky with the 5-second penalty, not doing anything in the end," Piastri said after the race.

"I think the pace was strong, another solid weekend in terms of what we could control. I'm happy with how it went, and now we will enjoy the break before Silverstone."

Piastri is now only five points away from taking the championship lead from Guanyu Zhou.

The series has a break now before the fourth round at Silverstone in July.
