Oscar Piastri: The sooner I can get to F1® the better

Tuesday, 4 May 2021

The Aussie has set his sights on a promotion.

The Australian Grand Prix podcast In the Fast Lane has released its latest episode, featuring the reigning Formula 3 World Champion and Formula 2 racer, Oscar Piastri.

Piastri joined In the Fast Lane co-hosts Matt Clayton and Michael Lamonato to discuss the prospect of graduating to Formula 1® next year, the influence Mark Webber has had on his career, winning on his first weekend in Formula 2® in Bahrain, and the memories from his first taste of Formula 1® machinery.

Piastri explains that whilst his initial plan was to spend two years in Formula 2 before moving to Formula 1®, with the results he has had so far in 2021, he now has his sights set on an earlier transition.

“I think I’m definitely going to be pushing to get there next year, with the beginning of the year we’ve had, I think we can definitely set our sights towards the championship now,” said Piastri.

“I think we showed at Round 1 that we can definitely fight at the front and fight for the title, so the sooner I can get to F1® the better in my eyes.”

Piastri went on to discuss the nature of his relationship with his manager Mark Webber and the impact he is having.

“During the race weekends it’s much more about any little advice specific to the race or that weekend, then he imparts his knowledge in that regard. Then away from the race weekend, it’s much more about the big picture.”

The podcast is available on Spotify, Google Podcasts and Apple Podcasts platforms.
