David Brabham: The Brabham name could return to F1®

Tuesday, 22 June 2021

The Brabham name is synonymous with GP motor racing.

The Australian Grand Prix podcast In the Fast Lane has released its latest episode, featuring former F1® driver, three-time Le Mans 24 Hour winner and sports car ace, David Brabham.

Brabham joined In the Fast Lane co-hosts Matt Clayton and Michael Lamonato to talk about being part of a global motor racing dynasty, his F1® racing days with Brabham and Simtek, his success all around the world in tin-tops and the emotions of developing the Brabham BT62 in Australia.

Brabham goes on to discuss the likelihood of the Brabham name making a return to the Formula 1® grid, admitting that if the right offer were to come along he thinks it would be great to see.

“Would it be great to see Brabham back in Formula 1®? Absolutely…I think budget cap is a really good idea, it opens up a lot more opportunities for people. It’s not something that’s on my desk at the moment that’s for sure, but you never know, one day it may return back to Formula 1®,” said Brabham.

“If something in Formula 1® came up, it can’t be anything, it’s got to look right and have the right backing, because I’ve been in Formula 1 without the right backing and I’m not going to do that again so it would have to have significant funding to sway us.”

The podcast is available on Spotify, Google Podcasts and Apple Podcasts platforms.
