The BWT Alpine F1 Team have announced that Jack Doohan will be joining their driver academy this year.
Doohan will join Olli Caldwell as a new member of the academy, with the team retaining Victor Martins and Caio Collet for the upcoming season.
The Australian was a member of the Red Bull junior programme but was notably missing when they announced their lineup for 2022.
Doohan isn’t the only Australian to be a member of the Alpine Academy. Oscar Piastri was also a member. However, he graduated after taking out the FIA Formula 2 Championship title in 2021. Piastri will take on the reserve driver role for the F1® team.
“I’m looking forward to getting to know everyone more and settle into being an Academy member,” Doohan said.
“The facilities are awesome, and the door is always open for chats and advice. I’m keen to get stuck [in], work hard and start the 2022 on-track campaign”.
Doohan will drive for Virtuosi Racing this year in Formula 2®.
Alpine will launch their 2022 car, the A522, on February 21 – two days before pre-season running begins in Barcelona.
