F1® family fun for the young, and young at heart

Thursday, 16 March 2023

Coming to Albert Park with kids in tow? The Super Mario Bros. Movie Family Zone has something for everyone…

You're never too young to be (or become) an F1® fan – every year at the FORMULA 1 ROLEX AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2023, you can't help but notice the numbers of young families around Albert Park, having a day out around the lake with the world's fastest cars as their soundtrack. But look … F1® cars are cool and all, but how about something extra for the kids? We hear you.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie Family Zone – located across the back of the circuit on the Albert Park Golf Course between Turns 8 and 9 – is where you'll find a whole host of activities, activations, things to see, try and do – and puppies. Who doesn't love puppies?

What can you see, do and – more importantly – let the kids loose on at The Super Mario Bros. Movie Family Zone? A lot, so here's a snapshot.

First, the practical side – there are all the amenities you need, food and drink areas, spots to set up a parkland picnic, and merchandise stands so you can sport the latest Grand Prix gear or wear the colours of the team you're cheering for (we're expecting McLaren's merch to support Melbourne's own Oscar Piastri to give the park a decidedly orange tinge).

TICKETS: Watch two F1® practice sessions, plus F2® and F3® qualifying on Friday at the FORMULA 1 ROLEX AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2023. Secure your Grandstand tickets for only $105, but be quick, as they are selling fast!

While we're on McLaren, make sure you check out the McLaren F1® show car – there's always a 'wow factor' when you get to see an F1® car up close like this.

The fun stuff? We've got loads of fun stuff. There are remote control car displays, stunts … and yes, 'try me' sessions where you can have a go. Take an aerial view of the track on the ferris wheel, or opt for a more up and down experience on the bungee trampolines. Test your footy skills with the AFL Auskick team, have a go of the driving simulator (suitable for all ages) and race the clock with a pit stop simulator. Look out for the roving entertainers putting on a show in the precinct, and visit the Family Zone Stage for musical acts every day of the event when the track action takes a pause.

Train your eyes skywards in the daytime for BMX stunt shows at Golf Course North/The Green, and keep them there after dark for nightly fireworks displays once the sun goes down. And big 'kids', we've not forgotten about you – there's adult race simulators to try your hand on. If you reckon you could beat Charles Leclerc's pole position lap in a Ferrari last year, here's your chance to prove it …

Oh, and the puppies we mentioned? That's our Puppy Pit Stop, thanks to our charity partnership with Assistance Dogs Australia, where can meet your four-legged friends, see some super-cute puppy races and stay for face painting. More importantly, you can learn about assistance dogs and their invaluable role in helping so many in our community. It's a fantastic cause to support – and you can do that while you're there (or at the event merchandise outlets on circuit) by buying a Sir Jack Brabham Trophy pin – all profits will be donated towards Assistance Dogs Australia.

To add a family feel to your F1® day out, check out The Super Mario Bros. Movie Family Zone – find it on your interactive circuit map, and we'll see you there!
