Wednesday, 4 January 2023

Aussies in every category.

The FORMULA 1 ROLEX AUSTRALIAN GRAND PRIX 2023 will be bigger than ever after a bumper 2022 event saw 419,114 fans pass through the gates of the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit.

Formula 2® and Formula 3® will make their Australian debut in 2023, racing down under for the first time. These categories will add to the packed track schedule and give fans a glimpse of the sport's future stars.

The F2® and F3® categories won't be the only ones debuting at Albert Park; there will also be five Australian drivers across the Formula categories.

Making his long-awaited Formula 1® debut in 2023 will be Oscar Piastri, whose junior career matched that of Charles Leclerc and George Russell. Piastri spent a year on the sidelines as Alpine F1 Teams reserve driver before being announced as a McLaren driver for the upcoming season.

Returning to the F2® for another season is Jack Doohan, who will remain with Virtuosi Racing heading into the new year. Doohan claimed three victories, two pole positions and six podiums in his debut F2® season. The Queenslander finished sixth in the drivers' standings and will look to try and take out the title in 2023.

F3® will see two Australians making their full-time debut in 2023. New South Wales-born driver Christian Mansell, will drive for Campos Racing after debuting in the series for the Charouz Racing System team for two rounds in 2022.

Joining Mansell in F3® is Tommy Smith, who was announced as a driver for Van Amersfoort Racing late last year. Like Piastri, Smith is also from Melbourne, making their debuts at the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit in their home cities.

UPDATE: 17-year-old Melbourne-born driver Hugh Barter is set to make his Formula 3® debut this March after officially joining the Campos Racing team for the 2023 F3 season. After racing with the team and placing second at the Spanish F4 Championship in 2022 (six wins and four poles), Barter continued to work with Campos at post-season testing, where he experienced his first laps in the FIA F3 car.

Although the track schedule for F2® and F3® is yet to be confirmed, both categories will follow the same race weekend format they followed last year. Both categories will have Free Practice and Qualifying on Friday, their Sprint Race on Saturday, and their Feature Race on Sunday. The exact timings will be announced closer to the Grand Prix™.

Don't miss your chance to see all these Australians take to their home circuit for the first time by securing your Friday tickets now!
