Nico Hulkenberg won’t go quietly. The German’s future seemed shaky when he was dropped by Williams for 2011, was on life support when Renault said ‘au revoir’ after 2019, and looked done in 2021, when he didn’t race at all.
And here we are in 2024, with Hulkenberg having more than 200 starts on his CV and having done his reputation no harm at all at Haas.
Haas was invisible for most of 2023, but Hulkenberg made Q3 nine times in a car that ate its tyres faster than any other in races, meaning he’d inevitably drop back outside the top 10.
Speaking of … Hulkenberg is the only one of the top 10 drivers with the most starts in history without a win to not have a single podium to his credit; he starts 2024 eight races shy of Andrea De Cesaris’ record of 214 starts without a victory.
